Calshot Track Session
6th March 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
£10.00 – £15.00Track cycling sessions run at Calshot Velodrome coached by the clubs British Cycling track coaches. Sessions are open to riders of all abilities and clubs. Riders will be grouped by ability. Sessions are £10.00 per rider if you are a member of Brighton Excelsior & VC Jubilee. Non members are £15.00.
You are expected to be self sufficient during your session including your own bike and supplies. If you don’t own your own track bike these can be hired at the track. The club also does have a number of track bikes that can be borrowed but please after booking email volunteer@vcjubilee.co.uk to see if there is one available.
You will get at least 40 minutes track time if we run 3 groups or 60 minutes if there are 2 groups. This will be plenty of cycling time as it is tiring.
Group Activities
All riders must meet outside the velodrome entrance 5-10 minutes before the start time. The coach will then instruct the riders down into the track centre. Riders should be in their cycling kit (changing rooms at located at reception) and once inside the velodrome should put on their cycling shoes and get their track bike ready to ride.
All riders will be present for the briefing and introductions in the track centre. We will ensure everyone has everything they need and sort out any issues before splitting into ability groups. During the session we may switch riders between groups depending on their on velodrome riding ability.
New/Beginner: We will run through the mechanics of a track bike, how to ride the bike and then the characteristics of a velodrome. You will then practice riding on the flat surface inside the track centre until you are comfortable with the bike. Then you will start cycling on the track, initially on the flat and the straights leading up to the corners and then doing some full laps. We will then do some cycling activities on the track.
Intermediate: We will run through the basics of the velodrome to refresh everyone’s memory and then ask you to get up cycling on the track’s blue line for a few laps. Once we are happy you can ride the track safely we will then run some structured activities like take a lap, changes, trains and stations ect for the rest of the session.
Expert: Same as the intermediate group but instead we will expect you to run a structured warm up self-sufficiently by changing every lap in a bunched group of riders. We will then do some group activities, these can be suggested by the riders or selected by the coach. We may also do timed sprint laps.
