Run by qualified British Cycling Cyclocross coaches these sessions develop your understanding of the skills required for cyclocross racing. They include physical training so they will be tiring. These sessions are not just for cyclocross riders, anyone with a mountain bike is very welcome to come along and take part. Riders need to be 12+ to ride. We have a mix of first-time cyclocross riders to regional champions taking part.

Each session will run to a theme focusing on a single aspect of the cyclo-cross discipline. This could be mounting, dismounting or carrying the bike right down to braking, cornering or gear selection. We get riders of all different ability’s young and old practising these core techniques. Each skill is built from the ground up at each rider’s individual ability. So, your session will align with whether you will be learning a new skill or practising to make it better.

The second half of the session will always be high intensity. A course usually including the skills just practised will be set up and we expect you to put in a maximum effort. We do this so you can practice the skill under race conditions with other riders.

We try to run each session with everyone riding at the same time but depending on the number of coaches we have available we may have to split the riders and ask riders to wait and relax so we don’t go over our maximum coached rider numbers. For the last training aspect, you may be told you are no longer being coached and you are riding under supervision only or asked not to take part in the last part of the session. This is so we can safely get all the riders riding whilst keeping an eye on you.

These sessions are run slightly different to a normal British Cycling coached session. Due to the popularity we expect you to turn up on time and ready to ride. This is not a social session and the riders expect a full hard work out which is why we run the session this way.

The session runs on Water Hall playing fields where the football pitches are located. Please park in the car park by the football pavilion. If the car park cannot be use (i.e travellers) the session will take place on the east side of the field. Sessions cost £2 each night to cover the cost of the lights. Sessions are run under floodlights, the first few its still daylight!!!

If the weather is really bad the sessions may be cancelled. Please check twitter and Facebook for any updates. The sessions are on unless otherwise stated so don’t ask the question, it will be posted online if cancelled!!!

If you are under 12 please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and tell us how much riding you do. If the amount you do is suitable then you may still be able to come along. If you want to come along and watch for the first sessions then you are more than welcome to do so.
