Information

VC Jubilee is a recognised British Cycling (national governing body) "Go-Ride" and Sport England "ClubMark" club for young people from 9 to 18 years (family members can get involved too if there are younger riders), and we are based in Shoreham-by-Sea.

We are linked to Brighton Excelsior Cycling Club (BECC) our adult cycling club, and on the 8th July 2006 we are having a joint club Open Day for anyone interested in cycling to come along and meet the club and take part in some of our activities, from 9am at the AOAC.

Sally Page, the club contact says "this is a perfect time to continue your cycling activities if you were involved in any Bike Week events. VC Jubilee provides qualified coaching for the youth development section. The club is linked into the pathway to identify future stars through British Cycling's Talent and Olypmic development programme, with the excitement of 2012 Olympics coming to London, this is a real opportunity for our youngsters to be involved in that event through invlovement with our clubs. For those that aren't interested in competition, we go on plenty of fun rides and develop cycling skills, to help youngsters ride on roads more safely, but to also explore more remote countryside areas too".

Fundraising

We are hoping to help one of our young club members, Matt Howard, raise money for his amazing BSES environmental research trip in ornithology and field ecology to Peru in July 2006 in the Cordillera Blanca (White Mountains) – Peru’s rival to the Himalayas. There are limited records from this area, so the studies will be published and probably recognised as scientific fact.

Feature

I-magic virtual reality cycle racing – attempt to virtually race against Chris Hoy’s Olympic 1km record – see yourself in big screen action on a virtual track. We will add up all the races distances to see if we can “virtually” cycle Matt to Peru! Its only 6000 miles (9600km).

Equipment

If you have your own bike and helmet please bring them, however if you don't have them, Mountain bikes and helmets will be available for you to borrow. During cycling activities helmets must be worn at all times.
