Mitre 25

3rd November 2002

The last main race of the season was re-arranged from 27th October due to very bad weather.
Times were not overly impressive but considering the way the weather turned out I don't feel anyone was too surprised, although the fast men always seem to be able to do sub hour times!! The event was won by Kevin Neary with a 56.19
Charlie Parsons did 1.08.26, but his time was not credited as he started twice, due to a break in his chain.
Keith Balcombe did a 1.09.45, which he was very pleased with.
Neil Garrett did 1.11.03; I did not have a chance to talk to him after the race, as by the time I got back to the hall, his other commitments for Sunday had claimed him.
Elaine Scott did 1.16.02 and John Scott a 1.20.28, but they got the worst of the weather for the whole race, as it started to rain just as the tandems were setting off.
Poor Roy Page got a puncture warming up so the hopes of a personal best flew away with the wind!
Andy and Ian did not start; it's always hard to re-arrange things when an event is postponed.
The teas and prizes were held outside and gave the whole event the feel of a garden party.
I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Well-done Brighton Excelsior CC a very good team effort better luck next year.

SCA Hill Climb

2nd November 2002

Yes folks another wild, wet and windy day.
Mike Murray our only entrant got a puncture just off the start and still managed to finish joint 6th with a 7.09
Are all Hill Climbers MAD???? I think we all know the answer to that one.
